BUILD’s projects are designed to channel the character of the neighborhood while providing a rich variety of spaces that support the complexity and richness of San Francisco. Thoughtful, quality design improves neighborhood character and creates great living space.

The Homes at Esprit Park

The Homes at Esprit Park is a project that adaptively reused a 1906 brick warehouse— previously the Esprit de Corps headquarters. It created a mixed-use residential community adjacent to Esprit Park in the historic Dogpatch neighborhood. Initially, the brick-and-timber buildings were seismically retrofit with the addition of an internal plaza and two six-story steel-framed buildings within the original building footprint. Salvaged timbers, trusses and other materials were recycled into the new construction.

O&M

Interior Design magazine featured the unique collaboration between BUILD, Kennerly Architecture & Planning and Pfau Long Architecture on the design of the O&M buildings in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood. As discussed in the article, by bringing together this team, we found that “the sum is greater than its parts”.

One Oak

Both BUILD and Snøhetta share an appreciation for the physical spaces in which we live. For BUILD’s One Oak project, Snøhetta tailored the building’s design to take cognizance of the impactful winds, sun exposure, and views at the corner of Oak and Van Ness. Working in tandem with natural elements serves a pivotal role in the formation of this iconic addition to the San Francisco skyline which will simultaneously pedestrianize the neighborhood.

India Basin

BUILD has embarked on a long journey to transform a semi-wild former gravel yard into a pedestrian-first, human-scaled, bicycle-friendly, residential village where neighborhood amenities are within a short walk. BUILD is proposing a mixed-use development that will include a new publicly accessible network of improved parkland and open spaces and a mixed-use urban village.
